The Bike Cave - A Bicycle Cooperative

Bike  Training Classes  begin this week!

Basic bicycle repair class, (Maintenance 101+), will begin this Friday, March 27th.  This low cost, ($25 for 6 3 hour classes), training will cover basic bicycle maintenance as well as major adjustments and repair.

The Traffic Skill Course is a two day, (4 hours each), course which covers the basics of bicycle and equipment fit, and riding safety; classes are on April 2 and 4.  This course includes both classroom and on road training.  Cost is $79.

What we offer

The new Bike Cave, (tentative opening date is February 9, 2009), will contain 6 fixed bicycle repair work stations; two portable work stations; a truing station; tools, (including bicycle specific tools); bicycle parking; parts and staff to help assist you in making repairs, and much more.

The new Bike Cave is located on the first floor of the Pecos building, room 100.  This location is just east of the Music Building and north of the Pedernales Building.  We offer:

  • Assistance in making bicycle repairs
  • Free access to tools and repair advice from bike cave staff for those who volunteer time to the Bike Cave co-op.
  • Low cost, first-come/first served basic tune-up and repair for folks who don’t wish, (or don’t have time), to make their own bicycle repairs.
  • Volunteer training:  Yes, as a volunteer you are just as likely to be asked to sweep floors, inventory tools or bicycles, or install bicycle racks on campus.  However, as time allows, our seasoned bicycle staff will work with volunteers to educate them in how to make basic repairs á la “train-the-trainer”, so that the cycle of knowledge will continue after current staff graduate.
  • Input on future training and repair programs; rewards programs; community outreach; and development of bikeways, bicycle parking, and campus bike amenities.
