LATEST UPDATES:

  • Sessom Drive Construction and Required Bus Route and Stop Changes Effective April 8, 2013
Texas State has been working with our bus provider, First Transit, and the local transit provider, CARTS, to revise bus routes and stop changes as the construction on Sessom Drive continues westward.  We are doing our best to provide service with limited changes in stops and frequency.   The next phase of construction is scheduled to begin between April 8-15.  This phase will make two-way bus traffic along Sessom Drive nearly impossible for our 40 foot buses.

This means that most of the bus routes will depart from south campus (the Woods Street shelter or from Bobcat Trail) and eliminate the need to drive on Sessom Drive through the construction zone.  CARTS, because of their smaller buses, will be assisting us with the Campus Loop.  Changes will go into effect on Monday, April 8, 2013, and continue through the end of the spring semester.  Please review the following for the changes regarding your route.

During finals week, please allow extra time to ensure you are not late or miss your final.

For additional route information or questions related to these changes, please contact Transportation Services at 245.5555.
  • Bus Contract
    • Texas State's current bus contract expires August 2014.
    • Requests for Proposals for the new contract were received March 18,2013.
    • First Transit and Veolia Transportation Inc. will be interviewed in April 2013.
    • Contract will be awarded at May 24, 2013 at The Texas State University System Board of Regents Meeting

Greetings:

Transportation Services provides shuttle service to Texas State students, faculty, and staff in San Marcos. Services levels and routes are determined based on demand, student density, and available resources. Local public bus service, (including ADA accessible demand-response service), is provided by the City of San Marcos. Requests for shuttle service expansions should be directed to the Texas State University office of Transportation Services at 512.245.6799.

The Bobcat Tram system, (operated by First Transit), is provided for Texas State students, faculty, staff, and visitors and is designed to alleviate campus parking demand and traffic congestion. Services are available from perimeter parking on and near campus via Campus Routes and from densely populated areas of San Marcos via City Routes to serve this purpose.

BT Interurban (until August 23, 2013) provides service to Texas State commuters and the general public between Austin and San Antonio, making stops in Kyle, San Marcos, and New Braunfels.  This alternative transportation service provides a connections to Capital Metro in Austin and VIA in San Antonio.

Route and Stop Changes:  Spring 2013

There are three routes with service frequency changes for Spring 2013; these adjustments were made to allow routes to remain on schedule.  Specifically, the times for the following routes have been adjusted from the Fall 2012 schedule:

  • Ranch Road
  • Campus Loop
  • Mill Street

Construction Modifications:

Two stops are now closed due to construction:  Which Wich serving Campus Loop, and Sessom at State Street serving Bobcat Stadium.  Stops on Concho street remain closed for Wonder World and Campus Loop.

Additional stops remain on Wonder World at San Jacinto Hall, and on Campus Loop at the Admissions Center.

Check back periodically as construction on and around campus will continue to require route modifications throughout the semester.

Real-time bus information:

We have been working to develop a system which will allow our passengers to see when the bus will arrive at their bus stop.  Whether waiting for your bus to arrive for your trip to campus; on campus; or in Austin or San Antonio for our BTI riders, you will be able to see when the next bus will arrive at your stop throughout the service day.

Go to the NextBus website to see how this technology works then check our the Realtime web page on your computer or web capable phone to see when the next bus arrives at your bus stop.

You can access this technology from any smart phone or cell phones which are web capable.  There are also options to text information back to your phone.  You will also find QR codes at many major stops on and off campus; scan these codes to link to arrival times for buses at these locations as an additional quick option to find out when the next bus will arrive at your bus stop.

BT Interurban:

All BTI service Maps and Schedules are available on the BTI service page.  City and Campus maps linked above provide a visual overview for bus routes and service stops.
